The Overlord Show 2017

Overlord Show 2017

The show is situated a few miles from Southwick House, the operations centre for the original Operation Overlord in June 1944 and a stone’s throw from the areas were allied troops waited in preparation for the invasion of Europe to take place.

Organised by the Solent Overlord Executive (S.O.E) a locally based group of military enthusiasts. Each year the club selects to sponsor a charity, this year’s choice being the Invictus Games Foundation. The Invictus Games use the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect for wounded, injured and sick Servicemen and women.

The show depicts the history of the military from World War One onwards with both vehicles and re-enactors in exciting arena action backed up by fascinating static displays. Together with trade stalls selling a vast range of militaria, books, uniform and curios from pocket money prices upwards.

Many other living history groups will be in the expanded two field re-enactor section to give you expert and knowledgeable advice on the life of soldiers from many nationalities – Russian, Polish, British, German French and American in eras from World Wars One and Two to Vietnam and the Gulf War.

Vehicles are on display too, again from many eras and nationalities and vehicles many of which can be seen and heard in motion attempting the obstacles in the arena.

This year the site also includes a separate off road course, with driving demonstrations provided by the Wessex Hillrunners 4×4 Club.

To supplement the 1940’s theme, the event will include a 40’s fashion show, together with a Hawker Hurricane on loan from the Solent Sky Museum which will be on site.

As well as a well stocked beer tent providing shelter from the sun there are vendors providing food and outside seating.

Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome.

There is a large FREE car park within the grounds. Public opening hours are 09:30 to 17:30 on each of the three days of the Bank Holiday – Saturday 27th, Sunday 28th May and the Spring Bank Holiday Monday 29th May.

Please note the closing date for entering vehicles into the show is the 10th of May
