The Jeep was a very versatile vehicle and could be converted to many different configurations during its role in the war.
This particular conversion saw the Jeep turn into a rocket launcher
The Jeep was fitted with the T36 Multiple Artillery Rocket Launcher, which consisted of two banks of six rocket tubes one on top of the other.
The rocket firing Jeep had armoured plating to protect the occupants of the vehicle, it consisted of a shield behind the drivers and passenger seats that extended over the top and included an armoured windscreen, this was to protect against the blast from the rockets when they were launched.
Here we can see an American soldier loading the rocket launcher, the T36 could fire all twelve 4.5 inch rockets in a burst, giving the little Jeep tremendous fire power. They were used in Normandy and later in the war, the Jeep being able to reach forward areas that larger vehicles could not without being spotted by the Germans.
This was a further development of the Jeep Rocket Launcher.
