American Vehicle Markings for WW2 Jeeps

The American bumper codes are in three sections. The first part for Army, Corps / Division. The second for Regiment / Battalion. And the third for Company & Vehicle.     Some examples explained.

The bumper codes on the Jeep above marked  29 – 175 – 1            HQ 2

29 = 29th Division.   175 = 175th Infantry.   1 = 1st Battalion.          HQ = Headquarters.  2 = 2nd vehicle

Another example of bumper codes  101 AB 506              PI E 3 

101 = 101st.   AB = Airborne.   506 = 506th.     PI = Parachute Infantry.   E = E company.   3 = 3rd vehicle

AB = Airborne.   3inch star = Army Air Force.    AA = Anti-aircraft.   Δ = Armoured.   C = Cavalry.   F/FA = Field Artillery.   I = Infantry.   M = Medical.                              P = Military Police.   O = Ordnance.   Q = Quartermaster.   S = Signals.
