On the 5th of June we met up with the group we had been traveling with and headed along the coast road, avoiding the dual carriageway. we passed many well known places on the way, Omaha Beach, the Overlord Museum near Colleville and on past Dead man’s corner arriving at Sainte-Mere-Eglise.Sainte-Mere-Eglise was buzzing with WW2 vehicles and reenactors on the streets, the whole village had a very relaxed feel about it. This is one of the things that makes it very popular with vehicle owners.We drove past the church with an effigy of Private John Steele in his Airborne uniform hanging from the steeple, around to Camp Geronimo. We entered the Camp and were greeted by a line of Sherman tanks, we parked up and started wondering around chatting to people and finding that they had come from far and wide to attend this event. See our video at the bottom of the page.This is a great place to visit and most of the WW2 American vehicles were represented. Some very nice Harley Davidsons all manner of Jeeps, US army, Airborne, a Follow me Jeep and even a Flightline.   The vehicles from Camp Geronimo go out on road runs including the tanks, a very impressive sight. There many other places to see nearby as you are not far from Utah beach which still has many of the German gun batteries in place. Many of these are open and can be visited. The Airborne Museum at Sainte-Mere-Eglise is very interesting with some great displays telling the story of the American Airborne troops. Around 4 pm the sky started to look a bit dark so we headed of back towards Arromanches hoping to get back before the rain. We however did not avoid it and had a very wet journey back. The rain came at us from all angles, but we were soon back at our hotel in Arromanches. We were looking forward to seeing a good showing of WW2 vehicles in Arromanches the next day on the 6th, more of this later.
